Posted on May 29, 2009
ISLAMABAD: Chairman of Tea Importer Association of Pakistan, Muhammad Hanif Janoo called on Federal Minister for Commerce, Makhdoom Amin Fahim and conveyed him the concerns over continuous increase in import of tea through Afghan Transit Trade. He maintained price of tea was continuously rising day by day in the international market, because of low crop production in tea producing countries. On the other hand, the importers are also to pay import duty and pass the quality assurance tests at the time of legal import, he added. He said they were loosing market to open tea markets, which was importing through ATTA (Afghan Transit Trade Agreement). Ministry of Commerce (MoC) supported the demand of tea importers for reduction in customs duty from 10 percent to zero percent in the budget 2009-10 to save consumers of impact of rising tea prices in international market.
