Pak-Iran gas pipeline diameter may increase, if India joins project

KARACHI: Pak-Iran gas pipeline diameter will be increased, if India joins the project before the designing phase Addressing a dinner-party here, Petroleum Advisor, Dr. Asim Husssain said that Iran-Pakistan gas pipeline diameter would be of 42 inches, but if India joins the project for getting supply of one billion cubic feet of gas, then the pipeline diameter would be raised to 52 inches. He said that the obtaining gas would initially be supplied to powerhouses in a bid to generate lower-cost electricity as compared to those from high-cost furnace fueled. Dr. Asim Hussain claimed that Thar coal fueled electricity would be costlier than those fueled by Iranian gas. He said that the pipeline construction total cost would be around $1.20 billion, of which, $700 million would be on steel, which by hitching, efforts would be made to avail of the benefit.
